MTV Base picks Uhuru As “Artist of The Month” for February 2014

South African house group Uhuru has been tipped for major international success after music channel MTV Base named them “Artist of the month” for February 2014.

Urban music authority MTV Base is putting their promotional muscle behind the group following the success of their 2013 album: “Uhuru - Our Father”, with its trademark mix of high energy percussion, captivating vocals and keyboards.   The album added even more fuel to the group’s growing reputation as one of the country’s most exciting and enigmatic live acts, as well as the most sought after producers on the continent.

MTV Base Channel Director, Tim Horwood, says Behind the scenes, Uhuru have been controlling the music direction in both 2012 and 2013, producing some of the biggest hits on the continent and now it’s their turn to take centre stage.  He said we salute them for their creativity and originality and predict that they are on track to be the faces of South African music in 2014 .

Over the last couple of years, Uhuruhave been consistently growing their hit catalogue as producers, having created the soundscapes for crossover smash hits such as “My Name Is” by DJ Zinhle, “Via Orlando” by Vetkuk and Mahoota featuring Dr Malinga, Yuri Da Cunha’s“Atchu Tchu Tcha” featuringDJs Malvado & Kude, and “Khona” by Mafikizolo, to name just a few.

Throughout the month of February, the group’smonster dancefloor filler and number one“Y Tjukutja” featuring Professor, Oskido and DJ Bucks will be on high rotation on MTV Base, supported by numerous other programming strands showcasing the group, including:

Movie Release

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' Movie Secrets Revealed At Toy Fair

Toy Fair is in full swing in New York, and one of the hottest properties is the Michael Bay produced reboot, "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles." Only one problem: you're not allowed to take pictures of anything.

Aside that, we were able to snag a decent amount of information on the upcoming movie based on visits to closed-doors sections in LEGO and Playmates' booths:

LEGO My Turtles
There are three LEGO sets that will be released: the first is the Turtles' truck, for $39.99; the second was a battle set for $69.99, featuring a female villain with a stripe of red hair, and Megan Fox's April O'Neil; and a third, a giant underground lair retailing for $99.99 and containing Splinter, Shredder, and more. None of the sets had box art or specific names as of yet.

The Secret Of The Ooze
The truck set had LEGO ooze, though, that can drop out of the back. So in case you were wondering whether the classic piece of the Ninja Turtles' origin would be left out of the movie, worry no more. "Of course there's ooze! You've gotta have ooze," LEGO's rep told us.

TMNT
We can also confirm the name of the movie is "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles," though it was changed from the simpler "Ninja Turtles" so late in the process that Playmates had already sent all of their product to the printer. LEGO had the full title treatment, with "Teenage Mutant" much smaller over the more prominent "Ninja Turtles."

Fox, Now More Like A Fox
Playmates has a focused, but extremely comprehensive line of toys for the movie. The look of the turtles was more reptilian, while Splinter (the rat who trains the turtles) and The Shredder (William Fichtner) hew more towards their classic looks. From both the LEGOs and the Playmates toys, it seems like the normally raven-haired Megan Fox will have red or auburn tresses as April O'Neil. She'll look more like a fox then! Because foxes have reddish hair.

Foot Soldiers Are In The Clear
Playmates will release a line of Basic Movie Figures on July 6 for $8.99, featuring Raphael, Michelangelo, Leonardo, Donatello, a Foot Soldier, The Shredder, April O'Neil, and Splinter. This will be followed by a Raphael in trench coat figure later on. Of note, the Foot Soldier came with a removable clear mask. We're not sure why, though it apparently was directly from the movie.

Kendrick Lamar Gives A Slam Dunk Performance At NBA All-Star Saturday

Kendrick Lamar used to be jealous of fellow Compton native and basketball star Aaron Afflalo, but on Saturday night (February 15), K-Dot got to live out his hoop dreams alongside the Orlando Magic baller when he performed at the NBA's All-Star Saturday Night competition.

Afflalo, who was the subject of Lamar's 2012 song "Black Boy Fly," took a loss in the night's three-point contest, but Kendrick scored a major win performing "m.A.A.d city" and "Bitch, Don't Kill My Vibe" before the NBA's annual Slam Dunk competition.

After a warm introduction from Nick Cannon, Lamar took the stage at New Orleans' Smoothie King Center to the tune of "m.A.A.d city." Kendrick, who wore a black hood over his head, black pants and a pair of Nike's Red Octobers version of their Air Yeezy 2 sneaker, bopped his head up and down as his band played a rock-tinged version of the good kid, m.A.A.d city stand-out.

Dot delivered his bars with precision and expert timing before he switched the beat and the mood with the more mellow "Bitch, Don't Kill My Vibe." Kendrick started out spitting the lyrics from the song's Jay Z remix, before crossing over to the original album version. "I can feel the changes, I can feel the new people around me just wanting to be famous," he rapped to the rhythm.

At the end the good kid was treated to a round of a applause form fans, a reaction that he accepted graciously. "That's love," he told the live crowd and televised audience with a wide grin before leaving the stage.

Is it Safe to say Kendrick isn't jealous of Aaron Afflalo anymore?

2015 Election: President Jonathan consults with Emir of Kano, Ooni, Alaafin, Akiolu

President Goodluck Jonathan, has launched his consultations with some prominent monarchs in the North and the South-west ahead of his purported re-election bid in 2015.

President Goodluck Jonathan with the Ooni of Ife Oba Okunade Sijuwade Olubusi (ii)during the President's visit to Ooni yesterday in Ife.

Jonathan, who has said he will make public his decision to run or not to run in the 2015 presidential election later this year, visited the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero; the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, and Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwanu Lukman Akiolu.

In Kano, Bayero told the President the unity of Nigeria is non-negotiable.

The Emir said his emirate will work with other members of the traditional institution to ensure that the peace and unity of the country is enhanced.

Negotiating Nigeria’s unity as a way of addressing perceived imbalance in the structure of the nation is an issue as the country prepares for a National Conference scheduled to start soon.

Speaking in Hausa, he commended the Jonathan’s administration for its efforts at keeping the country at peace despite daunting security challenges.

Bayero  expressed optimism that Nigeria would not disintegrate despite the hydra headed socio-economic and political problems facing it.The 13th Fulani Emir of Kano said: “Nigeria has come of age, and as a nation state it has survived multi faceted upheavals that as it is today, it would be difficult for it to break up.“Nigeria may be going through hard times peculiar to developing nation states but the pointer remains clear that we shall overcome the travails and become stronger than we are before.”

The Emir tasked the President to float people oriented policies  to ginger political and economic stability in the country, maintaining that this is essential for the nation to achieve accelerated progress  in our march towards attaining nationhood.

He, however, told the visiting number one citizen to run an inclusive government vital to national cohesion, pointing out that such step is strategic to nation-building.

Bayero further charged Mr. President to appoint credible personalities into his government to achieve set goals, stressing, “Government should, at all times, avoid mediocrity to forestall failure of strategic policies that are of importance to Nigerians”.

The Emir commended Jonathan over the attention on terror war, and therefore called on the citizens to extend their full cooperation to achieve lasting and enduring peace in the country.

While thanking the President and the Federal Government for the support during his ill health, Bayero noted that nothing could be greater than peaceful co-existence amongst the various ethnic groups in the country and tranquility in the society.

He assured the President that his administration would continue to receive support from him and the emirate.
Jonathan told the Emir he was in Kano to pay homage and thank the emirate for the efforts at keeping Kano State at peace.

He said his administration was open to wise counsel and advice from the traditional institution.

The President wished Bayero good health and called on him to continue to guide and encourage the political leadership.

Speaking to journalists at the palace after the visit, the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), and a Kano prince, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, said the Emir’s message was instructive and supportive.

Secret meetings
In Ile-Ife, Osun State, Jonathan met with Oba Okunade Sijuwade behind closed doors.
Reports say the issues  discussed include the 2015 presidential poll and the governorship election in Osun State scheduled to hold in August and in which Senator Iyiola Omisore, an indigene of Ile-Ife, is a leading aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

The meeting was called by the President to seek the support of the Yoruba race in the 2015 presidential  election.

Jonathan, who arrived the Ooni’s palace at exactly 3.00pm, was accompanied by the Minister of State for Federal Capital Territory, Oloye Jumoke Akinjide.

After introduction of dignitaries who joined Sijuwade to welcome the President, the monarch and  Jonathan entered into the inner chamber of the palace where they met for 30 minutes.

The President, who left the palace of the Ooni  at about 3.45pm, refused to speak with newsmen, insisting that the visit to the monarch was a private one. The Deputy Governor of Osun State, who welcomed the President to the state on behalf of Governor Rauf Aregbesola, was among dignitaries at the palace of the Ooni.

Jonathan’s meeting with the Alaafin, Oba Adeyemi, during the visit to the Oyo palace was also held behind closed doors. The President later thanked the people of Oyo State for the support he received during the 2011 elections.

Addressing the people of Oyo, he said, “I thank not only the people of the state, but the entire South-west for the support we received in 2011 and I have come to reciprocate the gesture with the hope that things will continue as well. We are one, I remain your own”.

Walking Dead' Predictions: Catching Up With The Scattered Survivors

"The Walking Dead" came back from hiatus in serious style last week, catching us up with three survivors of the Governor's attack on their home. It was a weird, wild fifty minutes in which Michonne dreamed a demented dream, Rick took a 24-hour nap, and Carl tussled with zombies for his god-given right to sit on somebody's roof and eat seven pounds of chocolate pudding.

But exciting as it was to be back in the land of the dead, we were left last Sunday with more questions than answers about just what happened as the prison walls crumbled and the walkers rushed in. So with that in mind, here are our hopes, dreams, and predictions for what's in store in tonight's episode.

1. We'll get to catch up with the rest of the cast... but that cast won't be quite as big as it was. Enjoyable as it was to watch Carl scuffling with walkers and eating pudding while Rick slept off the death of his dreams, this week's episode is bound to address the whereabouts of everyone else who made their escape from the prison's wreckage: Daryl, Beth, Maggie, Glenn, Sasha, Tyreese, Bob, plus all the various erstwhile Woodburians who'd assimilated into the community and escaped on the bus with Glenn.

There's just one problem: with the survivors scattered all over the place, this is way too many people for the show to keep track of. In other words: if those nameless Woodburians on the bus end up wearing the proverbial red shirts tonight, nobody should be surprised.

2. We'll get the final word on little Judith's fate. That blood-covered baby carrier, conspicuously absent of baby, was the elephant in the room all throughout last week's episode. MTV's own Josh Wigler pointed out last week that nobody's dead in a horror show until you see a body... But on the other hand, a dead baby on-screen would be pretty grotesque, even for "The Walking Dead." And with Judith's whereabouts still a mystery, it's not impossible that Li'l Ass-Kicker might live to kick ass once more... Is it? No, shhhh, don't tell us. Just let us cling to this small shred of hope.

3. Carol will make a comeback. Maybe it's just wishful thinking, but with former prison peeps running willy-nilly through the landscape, it seems inevitable: someone will run into Carol, who's been missing from the show ever since Rick exiled her from the prison after she confessed to killing Karen and David. Our guess: the someone who bumps into her will be Tyreese, and it's going to be really awkward.

4. The mystery of the Walker Feeder will finally be solved. And hey, while we're wildly theorizing: remember how, in the last episode before the mid-season break, evidence was beginning to mount that one of the prison community members was a secret, mouse-disemboweling lunatic? We think it's Lizzie, that creepy girl who believes that the walkers are "just different;" and we think that Tyreese, who escaped with her and the rest of the kids, is about to find out that he's on the run with a teeny tween sociopath.

5. We'll have to wait at least another week for more of Michonne's fascinating backstory. Last week's episode included one of the most amazing scenes ever to appear on "The Walking Dead," as Michonne descended into a jigsaw puzzle nightmare made from the fractured bits of her past. It was an absolutely choice piece of television: surreal, audacious, and intimately revealing of one of the show's most enigmatic characters. In other words, it's the kind of moment that the show's producers love to let their audience chew on for a good long time, so don't be expecting any more shots of Michonne in the fabulous midriff-baring sarong anytime soon.

6. The problem of Carl's missing shoe will be resolved magically and without discussion. This is more of a plea than a prediction. As in: please, let Carl find a new pair of shoes quietly, off-screen, and without any more angsty squealing about how he can totally kill All The Walkers if Rick would just give him a chance. We love you, "Walking Dead," but this season's quota of independence-asserting teen rebellion has been more than met, thank you very much.
'Amazing Spider-Man 2': Get Your First Good Look At The Green Goblin

On to "Amazing Spider-Man 2," Diamond will be releasing busts of the main characters, including a detailed look at Green Goblin we can't show you. Suffice to say, he's got some tall, tall hair. But we can show you their line of Minimates.

Releasing in April, the set comes in pairs including Electro and Spider-Man with firehat on (a scene directly from the movie); and Peter Parker, with Gwen in an outfit familiar to comic book fans. We wont spoil the classic scene, but suffice to say it's one of the most divisive in the character's history:

More importantly, there's the first really good look at the Green Goblin, though in block-like form. This confirms the previous glimpses we've had of the character in trailers, that he'll wear some sort of green/tech armor, and have a hideously mutated face. Though you can't see it here, DeHaan's ears were pointed in the bust, as well:

And here's Paul Giamatti, who suits up as the villainous Rhino. But first, please notice that he has only underwear on, and you can add his pants later. That's because according to a source at Diamond, he apparently loses his pants at some point in the movie. No, we're not joking:

More items you can't see yet, but do exist:

» "Guardians of the Galaxy" toys, including Karen Gillan as Nebula, all of the Guardians, and a teeny, tiny Rocket Raccoon. These will also hit in June for $9.99 per 2-pack.

Last bit we'll show you from Diamond's upcoming collection, which is totally unrelated but cool nonetheless... A to-scale replica of Mr. Fusion from "Back to the Future:"

We want to stress that this is a prototype only, because it may change. And under no circumstances should you stuff plutonium into it in order to time travel. But still, pretty cool. Release date and price point TBD, pending licensor approval.

It’ s not enough to get married to a rich man—Angela Okorie

on   /   in Showtime People 1:59 am   /   Comments
By FLORENCE AMAGIYA
Angela Okorie started out as a  model before she delved in the world of make-believe. Her acting career started after 10 years of modeling for Orange Drugs, owners of Delta soap.
Today, she is not only one of the most-sought-after actresses in Nollywood, but also, she’s a wife and a mother. In this interview,  she talks about her career, music and her roles as a wife and mother.
okorie4444What have you been working on recently?
I’ve been working on a movie. It’s a movie that people should watch because it teaches some moral lessons and also makes us to know that God still exists.
As one of the emerging actresses in Nollywood, are you thinking of becoming a producer some day?
I am planning to go into movie production. I want to put in my best, so that when people see my movie,  they’ll appreciate it. I love entertaining people  a lot.
There was a rumour that you wanted to go into music. Have you done any song recently?
I have not done any song, but I’ve written a lot of them and I will soon hit the studio. I’m still putting finishing touches to my songs before going to the studio. I’m not going to release just single,  I’m planning to come out big with my album.
This is what I’ve been doing since my childhood; it wasn’t a child’s play for me. I grew up with it. While growing up, I was  in the choir, and a soloist in my church. I came back to Nigeria to do modeling and from modeling to acting. So singing has been part of me.
Most times, I sing without instrument and if you listen to me, you’ll be convinced that I am a singer.
Most musicians started  as gospel artistes. Are you going to continue with gospel music?
A lot of gospel artistes are actually making it inasmuch as they are not expensive.Once you are contented with what you have, you are okay. It’s not really all about money. Nowadays, most of these gospel artistes are really making it though not as much as the secular ones.
I won’t say I’m righteous, some gospel artistes these days want to be identified as ‘Evangelists’. I am not an evangelist yet. My songs are just showing appreciation to God.
I have one CD that I’ve developed, but I have not  released it because I’ll have to reproduce it again in the studio. It is reggae, but it’s talking about the world and people suffering. So, it’s not going to be all gospel; it also has to do with things happening around us.
What else should we be expecting from your stable?
In life, it’s important for people to understand who they are, their calling and gifts which is from God. It is something they know they can do. When your gifts are not working out for you, you look for an opportunity, those other things that would put food on your table. I have a calling for entertainment. Besides that, I hate it when people are humiliated, I like to see people smile, and I like to help.
Are you planning to establish an NGO  for the needy and oppressed, or even become a UN Ambassador ?
Yes, an ambassador. But I’m not ready to do it now, but it’s all part of my plans and when I bring it out, people will now shout.
Do you think you have compassion for those in need?
Even before I became famous, helping people has been part of me. I visit orphanages  often. As a matter of fact, most of the time, I celebrate my birthdays with them.
With all these your engagements, how do you manage your family?
I just have to cope. My husband understands my job. Even before we got married, he’s been very supportive. It hasn’t been easy, but I just have to cope.
Before going into marriage, most men promise prospective wives heaven and earth. Were you sure your man will fulfill his promises…?
Some men are better actors than most of us. A lot of them tell lies. Both of you have to sit down and discuss the issue.
There are some men who will tell you to quit your career because they want to marry you. I’m not going to say I didn’t have issues in my relationships before getting married to my husband.
I don’t think marriage is supposed to be frustrating. You should marry your friend, your partner and not just anybody that comes your way. You should marry someone who knows you and knows  what you want and will encourage you in whatever you want to do.
But at the same time, because  you are married, you need to cut down on some things. As for me, I put my marriage first before any other thing. No matter  how crazy I am, I still try to caution myself. I know I’m a very crazy person and people like me for who I am. There are certain things my husband would hear about me and he’ll get upset.
It’s only natural because he’s a human being. He’s still the man of the house. A man might come to you as an angel, but when he gets married to you, he becomes a devil. If you can’t stay in a marriage, you walk out of it. It’s  not a do or die affair.

It’ s not enough to get married to a rich man—Angela Okorie

Angela Okorie started out as a  model before she delved in the world of make-believe. Her acting career started after 10 years of modeling for Orange Drugs, owners of Delta soap.

She is currently not only one of the most-sought-after actresses in Nollywood, but also, Angela’s a wife and a mother. In this interview,  she talks about her career, music and her roles as a wife and mother.

What have you been working on recently?

Wes Anderson's "Grand Budapest Hotel" takes Berlinale Jury Prize as Richard Linklater wins best director Silver Bear for "Boyhood."

Black Coal, Thin Ice, a Chinese film noir from director Diao Yinan has won the Golden Bear for best film at the 2014 Berlin International Film Festival.

The film's star, Liao Fan, took the Silver Bear honor for Best Actor for his portrayal of a comic, alcoholic detective working in the Chinese provinces.

Wes Anderson's The Grand Budapest Hotel, a star-studded love letter to pre-WWII Europe, won the Grand Jury Prize, the Berlinale's runner-up honor, while Richard Linklater's Boyhood, a coming-of-age tale shot over 12 years with the same actors - including Ethan Hawke and Patricia Arquette, won the Best Director Silver Bear.

But it was China's night, as the Berlinale International Jury, headed by Oscar-nominated screenwriter and ex-Focus Features CEO James Schamus, handed out three top trophies to Chinese films. In addition to the two for Black Coal, Thin Ice, there was a Silver Bear for Lou Ye's drama Blind Massage honoring "extraordinary artistic achievement." Schamus wrote the screenplay to The Wedding Banquet and has been a frequent collaborator with Ang Lee, penning the scripts to such films as Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Lust, Caution.

Black Coal, Thin Ice is the first Chinese film to win top honors in Berlin since Wang Quan'an's  Tuya's Wedding in 2007. But Berlin has always been a premiere platform for new Chinese cinema. The Berlinale gave Golden Bear trophies to Zhang Yimou in 1988 for Red Sorghum and to Lee (Life of Pi) in 1993 for The Wedding Banquet (an honor he shared ex aequo with fellow Chinese filmmaker Xie Fei for Xiang hun nu).
