Ex-Egyptian president Mohamed Mursi jailed for 20 years






Former Egyptian president Mohamed Mursi has

been sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Morsi and 12 other Brotherhood members,

including senior figures Mohamed el-Beltagy

and Essam el-Erian were convicted on charges

of violence, kidnapping,torturing and killing

of protesters during demonstrations in 2012.

The presiding Judge Ahmed Sabry-Youssef said

the convicts were acquitted of murder charges

which carry the death sentence.

Morsi said he was ready to reverse what he

referred to as a military coup against him in

2013, planned by then Army Chief Abdel Fattah

al-Sisi, who is now the President.
